Student Spotlight: Tanit Rahmoun (ARAD ’28)

Hi, I’m Tanit Rahmoun. I was born and raised in Paris, France. After completing my undergraduate degree in Economics at the University of Bristol in the UK, I chose to pursue Arts Administration because I hoped to better understand the economic decisions behind artistic endeavors, namely how contracts are negotiated and how that affects the financial sustainability of being an artist.

What is your artistic background?

I started training at the conservatory in piano and voice at the age of 4. During my childhood, I participated in various competitions, including the Voice Kids France at the age of 11, which aired on national TV to 4 million spectators. I started ballet at the same age, with a career going on to span 12 years, also sparking a love of classical music and orchestral pieces.

What are your past professional experiences?

During my undergraduate degree, I served as a producer for a variety of projects, including an exhibition, a fashion film, two short films, and I composed a soundtrack. I enjoyed planning creative projects and coordinating different teams like solving a large puzzle (as long as they responded to the group chat). I also successfully completed creative production internships, although I find I shine brightest in leadership and independent roles. All in all, I dedicated over 1000 hours to this work and I am proud of having impacted over 150 creatives during my time at university.

What are some of your hobbies?

Alongside music, I love to watch movies (maybe make them one day, so far movie direction has occurred on my iPhone). I love reading, writing, traveling to new places, exploring cafes, shopping, and spending time with my loved ones. I am always looking forward to experiencing new things, and New York City is definitely the best place for that!

What are you looking forward to here at ARAD?

In this MA, I hope to meet like-minded people who want to blend creative and business endeavors together, and who can bring a different skillset than mine to projects. I also hope to utilize my background in economics to crunch the numbers on practical cases we’ll be exploring during our two years here. I am looking forward to making friends, learning from my peers and professors alike, and making the most out of the Columbia experience and community. From installations to shows to meetings to conferences, I want to partake in it all !
