Tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from? What was your undergraduate degree focused on?
I am originally from Fargo, North Dakota, born and raised. Dance was always a large part of my life, as I took weekly ballet lessons from the age of five to 18. I would say this largely influenced my interest in pursuing a career in the arts which led me to study Business Management, Studio Art, and Arts Entrepreneurship at Gustavus Adolphus College.
What previous experiences have led you to your current role?
Marketing was always on my radar during my undergraduate studies. In my marketing courses, I was able to work with local non-profits to improve their digital marketing strategies, and I often reflect on these experiences in my work today. The summer after my junior year, I held positions as the Arts Administration Intern with Minnesota Winds and Marketing Intern with Fargo Parks. Social media marketing became a daily task for me, and I found myself proud of the way my work would connect people.
How have those experiences informed your current professional path?
Working in marketing specifically with non-profit organizations brings about unique challenges, and I feel compelled to face those challenges as a future leader in the arts. Meeting others and creating an accessible community through an online presence is such a rewarding feeling, and I hope to continue my contributions to arts communities in this way.
What are you looking forward to in taking on this role?
As a new student to TC and new resident of New York, it is so exciting to think of the opportunities this role will allow me. I, hopefully, will get the inside scoop on the best arts spaces in the city and get to know my peers and professors more intimately. I look forward to celebrating each individual involved in the program through my new position – it’s a unique way to discover everyone’s niche and journey to becoming leaders in the arts!
What do you do outside of your time at TC?
Walking through the public parks, people watching, and stopping for a picnic to read my book is my favorite activity. Of course, I always take an opportunity to visit new exhibitions, performances, galleries, movies, and public spaces whenever I can.
